We went up to Deals Gap to ride The Dragon this weekend. We really underestimated what it would be like. The amazing thing about Deals Gap is that there was no major scheduled event. There was no trade or bike show. There are literally this many bikers and car enthusiasts there every weekend to ride The Dragon - 318 cuves in 11 miles that takes you over the North Carolina / Tennessee border - what is considered by many as the best and most challenging bike road in the United States.

We road the dragon loop (see loop pic above) which consists of the the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. Personally I found the Skyway far more entertaining because there was far less traffic, you could really wind it out at speed in the more gradual turns, and there were numerous places to pull off for scenic views and pics. Check out the "Tree of Shame" pictured above where pieces of people's bike is nailed when they wreck while trying to tame the Dragon. Us? Well, I wouldn't say we tamed the Dragon. We more like lulled it to sleep. I pushed it as much as I dared, scraping the pegs twice and pipe once (whoops).
